Eyebrow Trends: From Shaved to Painted - An Insider’s Perspective

A quick read about my wife, a makeup artist, and our daughter who keep their eyebrows shaved. Explore why people choose to go browless and how makeup trends have evolved over time.

Why People Choose to Go Browless: A Personal Journey

Let's take a look into the lives of my wife and daughter, both of whom choose to embrace a browless look. My wife, a professional makeup artist, often experiments with various styles and colors, even choosing to go completely browless at times. Our daughter, who is currently in her 20s, has followed in her mother's footsteps, also opting for a shaved eyebrow look. Although it may seem unconventional to many, I must say, they both look stunning, and I personally find them incredibly sexy without their eyebrows.

A Historical Look at Eyebrow Trends

The shaving of eyebrows and the subsequent drawing of them back on was a common practice in the 1920s and 1930s. This was particularly popular among actresses like Jean Harlow, Marlene Dietrich, Mae West, Lucille Ball, and Fay Ray. Each of these legendary stars would meticulously shape and draw their brows to enhance their overall look. Even Joan Crawford, an iconic beauty of her time, was known for her well-defined brows, which she meticulously maintained through makeup application.

My Personal Experience

My own experience with eyebrow makeup is mostly about design. My brows are nearly 90% makeup. They literally come right off when I wash my face, a result of overplucking in the 1990s. Since then, the hair never grew back. Despite this, I find the ability to paint them on as I wish quite enjoyable. It's my go-to look. You might call it ‘guybrows.’ They're slightly more normal-looking but still offer the flexibility to create any desired shape or style.

The Challenges of Maintaining Shaved Eyebrows

Persisting in the shaving of eyebrows requires a bit of effort to keep them looking perfect all day long. The key is to use quality primer that can help the makeup stay in place. Personally, I believe that if you're going to shave your eyebrows, you might as well enjoy the process and the ability to customize your look however you want. If you're considering this journey, it’s worth investing in the right tools to make the experience smoother and more enjoyable.

Remember, whether you choose to keep your eyebrows or shave them, what matters most is that you feel confident and comfortable with the choice you make. Your unique look is a part of your personal style, and that's what truly sets you apart.
